Deep Foods

Samosa
- Tasty pastries stuffed with potatoes, peas and
cashew-nuts. Excellent for a light dinner with fresh salsa, salad and wine. Also excellent
hors doeuvre in a party. The most popular Indian food item around the globe.
Accompaniment - They are traditionally served with either
tamarind chutney or mint and cilantro chutney. Our store has many fabulous chutneys
to choose from. The tamarind chutney is my favorite.
Serving Suggestions for Home - At home I serve Samosa
with soup (instead of the traditional tea) to make this into a complete meal. I use 2
Samosa per serving and this also allows me to stretch one Samosa package to serve my
family of four. I also add a side of green salad and cheese. On
scorching hot days I will make a big batch of homemade tomato salsa with onions, lime
juice and cilantro and dip my Samosa in it. The result is out of this world - the
softness of the salsa is countered with the flakiness of the Samosa. The cool,
fresh, limey, lightness of the salsa is is balanced with the warmth of the Samosa and the
bulk of the potatoes and the perkiness of the spices.
Serving Suggestions for Office - Indians love Samosa at
any time of the day. Try the Samosa with tea at work instead of coffee and doughnuts
for a change.
Serving Suggestions for Entertaining - Samosa the
traditional Indian street food is now a normal fare at stylish parties, receptions and on
restaurant menus as well. If you are having a large party and would like to order
more than 500 Samosa send us a note on our feedback form and
we will see if is feasible and cost effective to send it to you.
Serving Suggestions for Picnics - A picnic, for me,
is not complete without my Samosa. I put a package on my ice box and heat my Samosa
on a grill. I am a chutney-olic and usually have a good selection in my
refrigerator. I will carry a chutney that suits my fancy on that day and serve with
my Samosa. My husband will also use my chutneys to baste chicken and to serve with
vegetarian grillers.
Mrs Amin has created all these dishes and the recipes are a testimony to
her in-depth knowledge of Indian food. She has an art of combining tastes and
creating superb dishes. America is truely fortunate to partake in her creations.
